‘Ascend’ Initiative to Aid Refugees and Disadvantaged Greeks

Ascend is a new philanthropic initiative that was announced at the Concordia Europe Summit in Athens in 2017, aiming to help refugees and Greeks in need.

members of Ascend initiative as well as Radcliffe Foundation, IKEA Foundation, Libra Group and The Coca-Cola Company announced that the will donate 4 million euros in Seed Funding to deal with displaced refugees and disadvantaged Greeks.

Ascend is committed to help funding provision of humane shelter for refugees with a focus on unaccompanied minors, community programming including provision of food, medical care, psycho-social services, and vocational training for refugees and Greeks who are victims of the ongoing economic crisis.

The organization has already launched a portfolio of aid activities to help unaccompanied refugee children. The recently formed HOME Project provides secure housing, education and social inclusion for refugees, especially vulnerable unaccompanied minors.

Ascend has important partners in the project, including Open Society Foundation, Microsoft and Western Union and invites more to join the cause. Ascend provides the platform to create strategic partnerships based on their core competencies and philanthropic focus areas, such as innovative shelter models, community-based programming to support social cohesion, or livelihood and job creation initiatives.
